Lime and Pear Salad - Get Out Your Jello Molds!

Well, it's too hot to think about preparing or eating anything hot so here's a recipe from a time when jello molds were part of every dinner party.

LIME AND PEAR SALAD

1 package of lime jello
2 packages of lemon jello

1/2 pound of cream cheese
1 large can of Bartlett pears
20 red cherries
1/2 cup shredded pineapple

Pour a pint of boiling water over lime jello.  Stir until dissolved.  Put mixture in mold and let harden.  Pour pint of boiling water over lemon jello, add juice of pears, salt and cream cheese while hot.  Then when it starts to jell, cut up pears, add pineapple and cherries and stir in.  Pour over lime jello and leave in refrigerator until hard.

I know salt is not on the ingredient list so I believe it's just a dash of salt.  Many of these recipes seem to assume the cook will add seasoning on his or her (who are we kidding - her) own.

Here's a picture of what old jello molds are probably used for today!  And below that is a 1960's commercial for Jell-O and Dream Whip made by the cast of Hogan's Heroes!! Make sure you watch it!
